Scottish Rite

The 2011 Scottish Rite Spring Reunion is just around the corner (April 30th) and it’s time to get those Petition’s in. Keep in mind that one of the fundamental concepts of Freemasonry is that application for membership must be wholly, a voluntary act. A man must seek for himself and join “of my own free will and accord.” The following is an example of frequently asked questions.
What is the Scottish Rite?
It is a branch of Freemasonry designed to supplement and amplify the philosophical teachings of the first three degrees of blue lodge Masonry.
What is the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction?
The Northern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite is headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, and includes the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin.
How many degree presentations are there in Scottish Rite?
The 29 Scottish Rite degrees (4-32) are conferred at 100 locations throughout the jurisdiction. The Supreme Council confers the 33rd degree on a limited number of Scottish Rite Masons annually.
Who participates in the degree presentations?
Candidates witness the presentations. Members may choose to participate in the performances, if they wish. Scottish Rite is another stepping stone in the building of character among men. The man must seek its blessings; it never seeks the man.
